After Roblox Updates in the UAE, a Cybersecurity Expert Explains How Parents Can Monitor Their Children

Roblox has become one of the most popular interactive platforms among children and adolescents, combining play, networking and creating virtual worlds, but this proliferation has raised growing concerns about the safety of younger users, prompting regulators in the UAE, in collaboration with the platform operator, to take preventive measures including disabling some chat features and developing surveillance tools. And those official measures need to be backed by a direct family policy on children's use of play. So how is that possible?

Technical expert Sami A Nour explained that with the official measures taken by the UAE to increase control over Roblox, it will be integrated if parents exercise their control role, which is most important in this matter.

The UAE. A new move on Roblox – 24 has been announced by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and the digital government, TEDRA, in collaboration with the Roblox platform, to implement new changes in the UAE, aimed at enhancing the levels of protection and digital security for users of the platform, especially children.

Supervisory measures

Sami A Nour said: "Roblox allows parents to link a child's account with the guardian's account, so they can control the experiences that the child is allowed to go through, the type of games and content available, the daily time limits, as well as spending limits, as well as controlling communication, and these steps are more effective, as children can sometimes go beyond official control, while guardian settings cannot go beyond".

"I would like to warn you that network control ensures that children do not interact in the game's conversation mechanism, both inside and outside the games, but if there is a game on Roblox that has an independent communication mechanism, the ban will not cover it".

Device settings

The technical expert added that "Roblox is not the only one that allows parental control settings, there are several apps and games with parental control settings, and these settings can be set not only at the level of applications including games, but these settings can be imposed on the entire device, such as the phone and PlayStation. As well as smart TV, home Wi-Fi, through which you can block the type of content on the Internet and control browsing hours".
