Awareness expert, individual cybersecurity adviser Sami A Nour has identified several steps to reduce cyberbullying and harassment, which would eliminate 90% of the entrances and channels used by bullies and harassers in the virtual world.
He told "Emarat Al Youm": "The most prominent steps that protect individuals from cyberbullying and harassment are to pay good attention to the application (privacy setting), make sure it is activated continuously, limit contact with strangers, and activate the ability to hide keywords and immorality on everyone's social media accounts".
Sammy mentioned a number of steps that ensure an individual's electronic protection when using smart devices, running their social media accounts, including "awareness" being the most important steps of protection, and the second step "cautiousness" from dealing with applications and weird links, explaining that awareness makes caution and caution creates security, saying, "Hackers and scammers develop their skills first, awareness must be constantly evolving as well, They're also always looking for loopholes and tracking digital bugs to hack individuals, and to apply consciousness you have to know the most important concepts and terms and mechanisms of action, and then apply safe steps".
The third step is to apply and acquire the skills necessary to deal with smart devices, which are based on a set of scientific steps, including not sharing sensitive data about a person, because hackers look for loopholes to break in, not entering anonymous links even if they reach from well-known people, and setting up a strong password, because hackers' ability to access passwords evolves, the stronger the password, the harder it is to access and the longer it takes.
He stressed the importance of downloading apps only from authoritative sources, because many individuals have been exposed to viruses, and hacking in general, because they seek to download paid apps for free, and there's nothing free without interest, hackers distribute those apps for free, but instead hack, as he often observed in office apps, Office Word for example, and Adobe apps, like Adobe Photoshop, because it's needed. A person is hacked through this app or has access to more than one Snapchat, WhatsApp, etc. They download programs called Plus, for example WhatsApp Plus, and Snapchat Plus, which are prohibited by the parent company and lead to the closure of the account, since all messages that go through them are spied on, they are linked to other companies and intermediate between the user and the parent company. Sami explained in a workshop at Sharjah International Book Fair's "Social Networking Station" wing, the mechanism of hiding unethical clips on YouTube, which children's parents have, and that Google search results should be picked that are scientifically and practically useful, adding: "I recommend not to download apps and programs that load the phone, and choose well-known programs to carry out tasks that a person needs, without repeatedly downloading more than one program in the field".
• Many individuals have been exposed to viruses because they sought to download paid apps for free.
