A distinctive radio production was recently completed through remote work: A Judge's Diary. Director Mohammed Buharoun devised the concept and wrote the screenplay and dialogue. A group of Emirati artists took part, aiming to deliver a range of awareness messages through the production, which took around a week to record, according to Buharoun.
Three Episodes
Mohammed Buharoun said the idea of making a radio production remotely arose from the current circumstances and in response to measures requiring people to stay home and suspend artistic activities. He conceived a remotely produced series bringing together Emirati participants from different aspects of radio production, aiming for a distinctive result that audiences would appreciate. Explaining the process, he said he discussed the idea with the team after they agreed to participate. He then prepared the script for A Judge's Diary, seeking a high standard of radio production across its three episodes. This required training and around a week of continuous work. Despite some initial difficulties, the team succeeded at every stage.
An Innovative Approach
According to Buharoun, the main difficulty was finding an unconventional idea. The team agreed to produce this awareness-raising work in an innovative way suited to physical distancing. It was a new approach: everyone recorded their parts at home, rather than gathering in an equipped radio studio as usual. Despite the absence of meetings and the lack of a studio and audio equipment, they overcame the obstacles one by one. Patience and determination enabled them to achieve their goal and complete all three episodes.
Messages and Goals
Buharoun explained that A Judge's Diary conveyed awareness messages and broader social goals, including lessons and reflections drawn from stories such as that of Humaid and Suleiman, presented in an enjoyable and engaging way. It also highlighted the richness and treasures of Arab heritage. He stressed that production time was kept short, with the series completed in just a few days. The team's ambitions, he added, have no limits; it always seeks to offer varied, high-quality artistic works and experiences.
The Team
A Judge's Diary was conceived, scripted and directed by Mohammed Buharoun. It stars Hamza Shuhibi, Khalid Al Haddad, Abdalnour Sami, Bouchra Boujemaa, Firdous Al Batran, Fahd Azzo, Yasser Askar, Hassan Al Muallim and Mohammed Khadr. Poetry and lyrics are by Sheikha Al Kaabi, and editing is by Mahdi Khalil.
